The Details on the Charming Bucktown Apartment

The Project

This was one of the first large projects that I embarked on knowing that I wanted to pivot from the corporate world to the interior design industry. Essentially I needed a portfolio worthy project, so I figured what better place to start than by redoing my own home? I knew I wanted a new look in my house anyway, so I took the opportunity to bet on myself and invested in fully refreshing my historic Bucktown apartment.

The Inspo

The inspo for this project was very simple: let the historic architecture lead the design direction. This apartment boasts gorgeous details such as original molding, original hardwoods, twelve foot ceilings, and a charming kitchen built in. I wanted these details to shine while creating a cozy, lived-in feeling on a high-low budget. Mostly, this project was an exercise in patience as I waited for the right vintage pieces to find me. It was worth the wait, and it goes to show that you just can’t rush good design.

The Client

In this case, the client was me, AKA Abby Morris. My style is very eclectic, as I love to collect vintage furniture, thrifted artwork and tchotchkes. There is never a day where I am not on the hunt for great vintage pieces, and if something speaks to me, I buy it. This project gave me great creative freedom to collect (even more) vintage items that made my heart sing, all the while being sustainable by buying as few “new” things as possible.
